The occurrences and happenings at Shalbourne Soaring Society. A gliding club near Andover, Newbury and Hungerford.

Saturday 24th June

Good conditions abounded at Rivar, with plenty of soaring, strong climbs and high cloudbases: I chose to head north to Milton Keynes by which time the return was through an area of greyness left being as good conditions retreated to the east. I ended up at Thame with 7 other gliders. Thame weren't operating but that didn't stop us operating 3 tugs; retrieving to Dunstable, Booker and Bicester! It stayed soarable at home, such is life!

  1. Chris Steve and Phil were at Interclub at Halesland. Due to expected warm front mid-afternoon, the tasks were all set to finish at The Park, via different TPs. It looked better to the east, so the start was at Wells (10k down track). Even so it was hard to get that first thermal, and most pilots glided back home rather than risk a straight glde into a field - Phil took the risk and got to Devizes for 2nd place in the Inters - congratulations. Novices were scrubbed just before launch.

The weather at Shalbourne definitely beats the rubbish they put up with in the West Country!
